When i prepare to watch this movie i do not have a big expectation because i thought this will be just another action movie, personally i"m not easily impressed by action movie because so many action movie not having a good plot and for many reason they so predictable. Don"t get me wrong i grew up with action movie, my father is a hardcore action movie, Stallone, Van damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jackie chan is my childhood memories, because of that i put my standard to watch Extraction very low. The only reason i watch this movie just because Chris Hemsworth is my favourite Avenger.
Suprisingly this movie have a good cinematography, the director of photography have a good job shoot the scene for hollywood quality thumbs up. The second good things in this film is the choreography of hand to hand combat, it"s very good they do it perfectly, i love every hand to hand combat in this movie.
Yup that"s the good thing
The very first thing i catch bad in this movie is the CGI, okay it"s not so bad but it"s caught the attention of me, maybe because this movie have a very good cinematography that makes the little bad CGI caught the eye. Second bad thing is the plot is too simple, so many forgotten character and so many oversimplifying story plot. I won"t SPOIL the story, i just make a simple note of example like:
the kid care so much to the main character? it"s like just a one day movie set and why he trust the main character more than his father right hand?
"s the important subplot of gangster kid Dhaka?
Harbour character background is contradicting with his act motives
ending is just duh
this father and son movie? you"ll see many father and son scene in many character plot)
Yeah i would say they have a lazy writing here, but in the end credit i see that this movie is based on Graphic Novel called Ciudad. so i dont know if this movie stay loyal to the Graphic Novel source or not, if it"s not then probably it"s lazy writing.
The conclusion is Extraction it"s a movie that have a good cinematography and one of a kind hand to hand fight scene, but this movie is not a martial art movie like The Raid so probably you"ll find more shooting than fist, you"ll also find noticeable CGI, cheesy ending, unanswered background story, and many why plot.
What concern my mind is why the choose grown up actor for Ovi The Extraction kid character? They have a gangster kid group in the Dhaka who is more younger than Ovi the Extraction Kid !
maybe if they change the kid character to more younger actor maybe it"ll make me more sympathy to the film, yes like Logan movie.
